Aus Labor Government Aims To Stop Extinction Crisis

The federal government have announced their goal to prevent any further wildlife extinctions in Australia.

Announced as part of a 10-year plan to improve the prospects of 110 endangered species and protect an additional 50 million hectares of land & sea by 2027.

$224 million has been promised to fund this bold plan. This is the best we have seen from the federal government in a very long time however studies estimate it will take $1.69bn annually to recover Australia’s full list of almost 2,000 threatened plants, animals and ecological communities.

It is great to see the Australian government taking the environment and biodiversity seriously. There are nearly 2000 threatened plant and animal species in Australia that we urgently need to protect. This funding will help but we still have a long way to go.
